What is a Top-Down Approach?
With Top Down Approaches, we use our cognitive (logic and reasoning) brain (called the cortex) – with things like education, tools, resources, etc - to direct our actions in order to bring us into the present (aka regulation).
When we are activated and triggered, we are not in the here and now. Our body and nervous system are self protecting in the present because something in our external or internal environment feels unsafe.
Top Down methods can help us regulate so that we are able to access the Ventral Vagal Complex and socially engage in the present, so that we feel safe to move toward the deeper transformative work (this happens in our 1:1 Somatic Integration sessions!)Â

Our Refresher Course includes the most recent version of our Healing Foundations Curriculum and the related workbook.

We have added so many new resources and tools since we first started our programs. The Refresher Course will be continuously updated going forward each time we add new tools to our Healing Foundations Class based on new trainings and education we receive.

I wish I would have discovered these resources 40 years ago. I would have been a better wife, parent and friend. I have learned to recognize my triggers and how to control my anxiety levels. I have also realized that my past traumas have controlled how I react to situations and things can be different in the future.
I have gained a deeper understanding of who I am as a person, and why I am that way...understanding this has allowed me to offer myself grace and compassion (no longer blaming myself for my justified feelings). I can recognize my body shifting, and I now have specific tools and strategies that work for me to move myself back up the ladder! I also have a better ability to communicate my feelings in a way that is listened to and heard...not placing blame or pointing fingers, but explaining how my body reacts to certain situations in a safe, heard way.
